Adopting a Local Search Strategy for Multi National Clients

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Jennifer O.

When you say `Local Market Strategy`, most people think of local as at the city level. In search that means Google Local, using Geographic delimiters in keywords, Local Directories, etc.

But for large enterprise sized clients, a local search strategy is one for a particular country. Multi nationals typically are faced with the decision:

Are they going to have one overriding strategy for all markets

or

Are they going to have a local strategy (including different products, pricing, etc) for each market (country) that they play in.

and how this question is answered has a HUGE impact on your Search Strategy (at least it should).

Why is a Local Search Strategy Important?

Google gives preference towards local websites within the search results. Canadian companies get special treatment on .ca; Brit’s on .co.uk and recently American’s on .com.

As the search engine algorithms change, it is very likely that more weight will be given to local factors. Although it is currently very common to see a handful of large powerful sites dominating the results on a multitude of extensions, in the future it will become more difficult to rank in another country.

How does Google determines a websites nationality?

There are many factors that help the search engines to determine the nationality of a website:

1. the extension - is it a (.ca); (.co.uk); (.com.au); (.com); ect, etc.

2. Hosting - where is the site hosted?

The best way to be considered local to a particular extension is to either use that extension in your url or be hosted in that country.

If you have a .com and are looking to rank outside the US, beware of your hosting solution. Hosting companies may appear to be local when in fact they?re hosted in another country themselves.

Other signals to the search engines that help with the nationality of a website include:

3. Google Webmaster Tools - country selection

4. Whois - address of register

5. Contact us page

6. More difficult to control but - the country that most of your links are coming from. For those of you who outsource most of your link building to another country, this could have serious implications in the future.

What are the considerations when determining whether to adopt a Local Search Strategy?

Essentially there are three major alternatives to evaluate. Each with it?s own pros and cons.

1) Do nothing ? try to rank with the .com

Pro’s

* Do nothing is an alternative that should always be evaluated. It?s the least costly of the alternatives (at least from a developmental standpoint) as there is no need to invest in a new website.

Con’s

* This alternative is more viable if you are already a hugely powerful site.

If you’re not, then chances are that it may take a lot of time and effort to catch up to your competitors. Sites that rank well for reasonable competitive terms on many extensions typically are older sites (5 to 10 years old) with typically ‘000’s of links and ‘000’s of pages indexed.

* This strategy may work in the short term but may be less reliable 2 years from now. If the search engine algorithms evolve to take more of a local market strategy you may find that you lose your ranking in countries that are not your local market.

2) Set up geographic specific pages using sub domains

For example http://targetedcountry.clientname.com. This strategy would be supplemented with a link building strategy focused on pointing links to the sub domain.

Pro’s

* It is possible to associate the sub domains with a specific region to Google

* Sub Domains can be hosted separately from the parent domain so can make local to the search engines. * Also, you can define geographic region in Google?s webmaster?s tools at the Sub Domain level so targeting a specific country is do-able.

* There is speculation that there may be a ?sharing? effect on the link building so that links built to the Sub domain benefit the Parent and visa versa. If true, then this might reduce the ?sandbox? effect on the sub domain.

* From a branding perspective, this solution allows a company to keep it?s brand intact as each country lives off the Company?s domain.

Con?s

* There will be a lot of work involved in setting up the new domain including creating new content specific to each domain.

* There is likely be some “sandbox effect” on the new sub domain. This is an important consideration as it will impact the ability for the sub domain to rank within a period of time.

* This alternative splits up the link building effort across multiple urls

3) Set up entirely new websites for each country

Pro’s

* This is probably the best way to rank in any one country over the long run

* This is definitely region specific to the search engines.

Con’s

* Unless you had the foresight to buy up a bunch of domains years ago, it is unlikely that you will be able to obtain all of your brand?s domains for each extension that you need. If you haven?t? already done this DO IT NOW whether you?re considering a local market strategy or not.

* If you can’t get all the url’s that you need then there will be some impact on your brand.

* There will development cost and time involved in setting up new websites for each market.

* There is likely be a “sandbox effect” on the new site.

* This alternative splits up the link building effort across multiple urls

Ultimately there is a lot to consider when determining 1) if a local search strategy makes sense for your company and 2) how best to implement it.

This is definitely a case where one solution does not fit all.

My students have been making small fortunes for themselves in the past 2 years, and now I’m expanding my teachings so that more than a select few can learn the simple secrets.

Newbie’s to the internet video marketing scene all seem to make the same big mistake. They submit their video to a site like TubeMogul, adding their video onto an enormous pile of similar videos so that it has no legs in search engines. Their videos get totally lost. Traffic Geyser, on the other hand, get’s you to the top of Google in 24 hours and is guaranteed.

For example, lets say you use Traffic Geyser, which submits to over 30 video sharing sites. If Metacafe picks the video up first, it will get indexed with them and their page rank and Alexa rating. At the present time, Metacafe’s Alexa is 132 and their page rank is 7. Automated services typically do not let you select which sites you submit to first, they just blast everything at once.

YouTube, on the other hand, has a page rank of 9 and Alexa of 3. Basically, that means it’s the third most visited site in the world! When you submit through YouTube instead of one of a dumping sites, you’re doing your business a world of good. From there, blast it with Traffic Geyser and watch the profits take-off and the search rankings rise rapidly.

Tips to Follow before Buying Links.

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Mark Hall

Site wide links are not as powerful as they seem but it means you get a link from all the pages, or many pages within the same website. For instance, you could obtain 10,000 backlinks from website having equal number of pages. The thing is that Google does not count a many of the links from within the same site. All the ten thousand backlinks may not be taken into account, but that does not mean that you would not get the expected returns.

Great deals could also involve article and directory submission or backlinks from a network of blogs. It is recommended that you do not buy several directory submission services as in all probability, they point towards the same sites. To get one of the best deals in the market with regard to directory submission, be prepared to spend a lot of time in research. A thousand directory submissions means that you have struck a magnum deal.

Article submission, again you need to make sure you are not buying services where you get submissions to the same directories so ask for a list or sample of the directories. Again, if you get services where they submit to a thousand article directories, you have struck a grand deal. Going on with your research beyond this point is not suggested as this is extra load of work.

When you buy backlinks a whole lot of links would be aimed at your site. It is surely a grand thing to happen but you have to make sure that you use different anchor texts. Produce six to eight permutations and combinations with all your main key words and use them at once. Variations would involve choosing the keywords and creating new key words out of it, retaining the main keyword. You do not have to take it in all earnestness, just ensure that the words are changed at times. Another important thing to look for when buying backlinks on a network of blogs is that the blogs are not on the same IP address. No pageranks hardly matters but they must be indexed.

There are also deals possible where you buy links from sites which are high on pageranks but such links are usually high-priced too. There is hardly any point in getting into deals where your budget does not allow you to take such plunges, but if you buy several links from sites which have currently zero to low pageranks, it could turn into a goldmine later. Hopefully, the sites are indexed, so… just ensure this.

Tips for Writing Adwords Ads

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Sri

Affiliate marketing is one of the most successful online businesses to hit the market today. And because of its huge success, people tend to push themselves to learn for more. While there are a lot of ways to learn, understanding some basic but practical tips for writing adwords ads really help a lot. Professionals and experts of affiliate marketing know that having the right adwords ads is the key to generate higher potential clicks from searchers since you ads are normally seen firsthand, that is, if they are correctly written. So how should you write an adword ad?

In writing an effective adword ad, the main factor is creating a catchy headline. Try to understand that when you write the best and the most relevant ad copies, chances are you can easily achieve high clicks. Generally, headlines can either make or break your adwords campaign. If you are wondering how you can create a catchy headline that could make successful clicks and sale, take time to understand the many tips that most affiliate marketers never reveal at all. When you make headlines, try to use questions as this can arouse the interest or curiosity of the readers. Another ideal way is to offer instructions, say, How to Lose Weight in One Week. Another thing is to tell your story. Nothing really beats sparking the interest of the readers instead of appealing to them.

When you write adwords ads, as much as possible, avoid mentioning things or facts you are not familiar with. Be sure instead to talk about something that you know about. When people notice this, there is a greater chance for them to click on your ad since they may be interested to learn some more. However, you can also be as wacky and as unbelievable as well. This can easily catch the attention of people. One classic example is the phrase “Losing Weight without Exercise”. Although this may really sound absurd, people can easily notice this, thus making them prospects for your ads.

Another important tip for effectively writing adwords is to make comparisons. Human nature dictates that people will always go for the better one. For example, when you are promoting a particular product and its competitors are well-known and very popular among the buying public, try to compare it in your ad. Moreover, by using the Three Dots, this can also help you gain customers. Why? Because when people see three dots added on the final phrase of the ad, they will naturally believe more information is waiting behind the ad.

Using the keyword “secret” is very effective as well. When these are used in headlines, expect a steady flow of searchers. The same thing also applies for the “You Need To” phrase. However, for some people the term might sound negative as it exudes a command more than a request, this approach is likely to attract customers since when you tell them what to do and they are interested about it, they will click on your ad instinctively.

Boosting your adwords ads practically help any online business. As long as you are creative and you know how to make ordinary things extraordinarily, gaining visitors and searchers will never be your concern.

Why Search Engines Love Inbound Links

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Derek Gehl

Relevant, respected websites that link to yours — without having links back to them — are search engine gold. This kind of link lets the search engines know your site is worth linking to, and it offers the kind of information that searchers are looking for when they type in your keywords.

One way You can get this type of inbound link is by approaching website owners and asking for a link, or by sending them articles (with a link to your site) that would be interesting to their audiences. But before you do, here’s a list of what to look for.

Great inbound links…

- Come from relevant sites. If your site is about golfing, don’t go after a link from a site that sells hockey sticks.

- Appear natural. If people were linking to your website randomly, they wouldn’t all use the same anchor text, and they wouldn’t all link to you in the same week. When you give out the links you want people to use, vary the anchor text and build them up gradually over time.

- Aren’t lost among dozens of other links. Unless the link is from a directory, you don’t want the page your link is on to have more than two dozen outbound links… and the fewer the better.

- Are placed in a good position on the site. Negotiate to get your link embedded in a natural position — usually within some text in the main body area. The search engines can discredit links found in the footer, right-hand side, or other popular areas where advertising usually goes.

Don’t stress about getting your link on the homepage. Deep links within a strong complementary website are still great.

- Are found on sites that are indexed regularly. Check the Google cache date of the page the link would come from and make sure it’s recent.

- Are on sites that have been around for a while. Older sites are more credible

- Are on sites with high Google PageRank. Links from high PageRank sites, will get you higher rankings in search listings. However, if you find a website that would be a great partner but the PageRank is 3 or lower, they are still worthwhile

Inbound links are one of the most powerful strategies for getting high rankings in the search results. It’s worth spending time on this.

You will certainly know what a bookmark is. However, you may not know exactly what social bookmark is. In fact, they are some free sites which allow you to share your favorite sites.

When you are surfing on the web, you may come across some sites which you like or you find useful. You may bookmark them in your web browser. However, you can only access you bookmarks in your own computer. As a result, it will be a good idea if you can access the bookmarks virtually anywhere.

This is what social bookmarks meant to be. You can bookmark your favorite sites on the social bookmarking sites. And you will be able to access the bookmarks whenever you can access to the internet.

You will be able to share your favorite sites with all the other web surfers. Of course you can make your bookmarks private. Yet you may certainly let others read your bookmarks if you do not make them private for you only.

This is how you promote your site using the social bookmarking system. You will be submitting your website to various social bookmarks. Since all other web surfers can read your bookmarks, they will also see your site and this will help to promote your site.

Search Engine Optimization is an Art Form

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Robert Kelsey

I’ll repeat that … Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an art form, it’s not a programming language or coding method. I like to think of SEO as an orchestra. The drum, tuba, clarinet and all the rest of the instruments may sound nice when played by themselves, but sound really GREAT when they all play together in an orchestrated manner. SEO is much the same … there are certain pieces of the puzzle that you work to improve on, and when they all come together, you have an optimized website.

Getting top listings doesn’t come by accident. If you know SEO techniques you should try to build them into your site as you build it. That is probably not your situation and you have a site built by someone else and it needs to be optimized. I suggest that your focus your first efforts on optimization after you have a completed site.

It will be of great benefit to you if you learn some good solid SEO skills before you start making changes to your site. If you simply start making changes you will not know why your listings may change, if they do. An often made mistake is keyword stuffing or over using important techniques like H1 tags and so on.

Something to avoid is overuse of your keywords. It happens all the time too. People just don’t understand the history behind the spider spamming and think that more is better. 50 keywords on your page will probably get you banned for that keyword. Five on the page may well get you listed high for it. Algorithms are always changing and there really is no one keyword density for any given page. This is something that has roots in all the other facets of your page, everything else that is there, and where any given keyword appears, whether it’s in heading tags, or just text. Get lots of inbound links.

Although SEO really is a lot of common sense, the adage that common sense isn’t common can play very true with SEO. You need to do some studying of SEO techniques in order to develop your strategy, for your site. Visit all the sites you can and read. Then read more. Everything that you need to know in order to succeed with your site in online as available information. If you apply optimization techniques properly to your website, and get inbound links, you will succeed.

Let’s face it, without listings “above the fold”, (visible without scrolling) on the first page at Google, you are just not going to get many visitors. You need to get your site into these top positions in order to make any real advancement in your online marketing.

You will get 99% of your traffic from Google, MSN and Yahoo! No doubt about that. You need to optimize your site for these engines. By this I mean take each page of your site and optimize each part of the page for these engines.

There are many optimization techniques, both on-site and off-site. The main on-site changes you will want to make will be to improve or add on the 1) title tag, 2) code attributes (alt=, title= and summary=), 3) keyword density, 4) use of H1 and h2 tags, maybe even using H3 tags, 5) your navigation and anchor text used, 6) meta description and keywords tags and 7) internal linking. Get all these things right and you have the major SEO efforts taken care of.
