California White Water Rafting Tips

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Will Stevens

Although it is incredibly fun, rafting can provide some risks. This is the very reason why you should plan your trip with a reputable rafting company and be prepared. You can never be too careful when it comes to things like these, so part of planning a good trip will include choosing a reliable company, knowing where to go and knowing what to bring.

It’s easy to find rafting companies, all you have to do is run a search and hundreds of listings will come up. A good way to start is by checking on licenses and permits. Don’t forget to check for the qualifications of the employees you will be going with as well.

Find out what class river you should be rafting on. Rivers are classified according to their difficulty and the skills needed in order to boat on it. You don’t want to end up on a ride that is too hard for that you won’t want to try rafting again. If you’ve had a little more practice then you can go on rivers with higher classes.

There are specific river classes for each skill level when it comes to white water rafting. For families and first timers it is advisable to go on a river that is either class 1 or 2. Rivers under this class have little rough areas and will not require a lot of maneuvering.

Are you already a seasoned rafter? Then classes 5 rapids may be more your league. However, you should be cautious when rafting on rivers that are classified under this since there are certainly risks involved. It’s good to know what type of river you can take to avoid and mishaps.

Some of the best rivers to go rafting in can be found in California. They are the South Fork American River, Kaweah River and Tuolumne River. These Rivers belong to different classes and will provide you with a different experience with each ride.

The South Fork American River is the friendliest among the three rivers, which is no wonder why it is the most boated river. The Kaweah River on the other hand runs in the class 4 category and provides an exciting ride. The Tuolumne River will provide both excitement and a scenic view.

It’s not just about finding the perfect place and who to go on this adventure with. It’s essential to pack the right gear as well. Don’t forget your sun block and moisturizer since you will be spending a lot of time under the sun. Also, bring clothes that are light and will dry easily.

Is a Steel Building Safe to Use as a Horse Barn?

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Amy Nutt

More and more people are using steel buildings for many different reasons. First of all, steel buildings are very versatile because they are used as sport arenas, garages, and even homes. They are quick to build, which is great for companies needing steel buildings because of the rapid changes they undergo. There’s also no more having to wait months on end for a new building to be built for incredibly large amounts of money. Steel buildings are affordable as well.

But what about the people wishing to use a steel building as a horse barn? Is it safe?

Well, let’s put it this way: If a steel building can be made into a home in which people live, then there is no reason why steel buildings cannot be used to house horses. That is rather amazing for a building material that was considered to be unusual just a century ago. Steel wasn’t mass produced until 1855 and it still took time for the versatility and the benefits to be recognized.

The physical and the chemical characteristics of steel make it ideal for building. Simply look at its chemical composition. It has a certain percentage of carbon in it, but is mostly made up of iron. The iron itself will slide past each other if cut into sheets, which makes it very soft. When the carbon is added in, the metal becomes considerably stronger. That’s what gives us steel and gives the steel manufacturers the ability to make various types of steel, which makes such structures as steel barns possible.

You want the main frame of the barn to be very strong, so that is, of course, going to require a harder type of steel. For other parts of the building, the steel doesn’t need to be as hard, so there is more iron and less carbon to make the steel softer and more flexible where it needs to be.

As for horse barns, horse owners are using steel buildings because they are low maintenance and bug infestation is not an issue. That means no carpenter bees and no termites eating away at wood. Steel also cannot develop mold, mildew, or any other type of fungi that may decide it likes to grow in a horse barn. It can certainly try, but nothing is going to happen if the barn is made of steel. A steel horse barn means more attention is paid to the animals and less attention is paid to the upkeep of the barn. Other things to take into consideration when using a steel barn is that there is a low risk of it becoming infested with parasites that can make the horses ill. We’ve also seen the horror stories where hay or straw has caught fire and the horses have no way of getting out of the barn because the entire structure is ablaze. The good news is that the risk of such a fire is reduced significantly since steel is not combustible. Even if fire would break out, there is a good chance the roof and the walls would not collapse since steel can endure incredibly high temperatures.

This makes the only concern being what size of steel building is needed. Of course that is going to depend on how many horses you have or how many you hope to have if you’re just starting out. But what is great is that steel buildings are safe to use as horse barns and in many ways keeps your horses safer than if they were in a barn made of wood or another type of building material.

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by John Daniele

Manufacturing helmets have been part of HJC Helmets business for many years in fact it started in 1971. The fact that they have been making hjc motorcycle helmets for so long and making them quite high quality as well is the reason that HJC is #1 in North America. They are also #1 in the world which is amazing. They try to keep the prices to where the average motorcyclist can afford one. One of the more expensive high-grade helmets that they have is the AC series. Here are some of the helmets that HJC Helmets make.

HJC Helmets offer a full line of hjc motorcycle helmets. That includes Street Full-Face Helmets, Off-Road Helmets, and Open-Face/Cruiser Helmets. In addition to the motorcycle helmets they also have snowmobile helmets and auto helmets. They sound like a one-stop shop no matter what helmet one is looking for.

If the biker wants total protection of head and face they should choose the Street Full-Face Helmets. One model that is good is the AC-12 El Diablo. This has an Anti-fog face shield and the helmet is made from fiberglass composite weave that makes it very light weight wise. The biker even gets sheltered from 95% of the UV rays with the face shield. It keeps the head from getting so hot with how easy the air passes through the helmet. DOT and Snell have both certified this helmet.

Off-Road Helmets are for just what their name says. They are for when a biker is on dirt not pavement. These have large eye ports, which helps goggles fit better. The AC-X3 Carbon is an example of this group. It is made from a carbon fiber composite weave. These helmets are DOT and Snell approved.

The CL-33 Solid is part of the Open-Face/Cruiser Helmets line. As with the whole line the CL-33 gives full protection to the head like the Full-Face helmets. These helmets do not offer face protection unless they come with a lift up visor as in the CL-33. Advanced Polycarbonate Composite is what this helmet is made from. The biker gets a great plus with UV protection from the flip-up 3 D face shield. The DOT has Okayed this one for safety.

Did you know that HJC makes other helmets beside hjc motorcycle helmets? They manufacture auto helmets. There are several models available. HJC manufactures snowmobile helmets of which there are three categories Off-Road, Full-Face, and Youth Helmets. With making all these kinds of helmets it shows you how dedicated HJC is.

The helmets do not last forever though they must be replaced. Whether it is slightly damaged in a crash or sometimes worse, you need to be aware there are other reasons to replace a helmet also. The sun can cause UV damage over time other usage wear and tear as in the padding are other reason to replace it. For a rule to follow the biker should get a new helmet every 3 to 5 years.

Bikers can buy with confidence of getting a great helmet when buying from HJC. After all HJC Helmets has been cranking out hjc motorcycle helmets for 37 years. The biker will not mind paying the prices on this helmet either. A biker should always safeguard their lives wearing a good safety rated helmet like these.

Swimming Pool Designs - Many Different Layouts

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Adam Beaty

Would you like to go to Tahiti but can’t get away? Lounging by a pool there oh what a dream. Or maybe a mountain stream or pond is your thing? No matter what your ideal getaway would be you can create the feeling of it in your own backyards with the swimming pool designs that they have out right now.

A pool can be shaped into so many interesting shapes. The material that can be molded so easily is concrete. There are infinite possibilities in design using concrete. Talk about high maintenance though concrete doe take some work to take car of. More chemicals eve need to be added to maintain water integrity. Concrete has to be scrubbed more and more crackage happens to concrete.

Have you seen some of the designs that vinyl liners come in? Some of them are breathtakingly beautiful. Some even look like marble or are trimmed with elaborate designs. An artistic pool owner could even create a masterpiece of their own and put their monogram on it. If you want to cut down on the scrub time have an algaecide added into the vinyl. Yes you really can add that to the liner to cut down on the growth of algae. Did you know that if the ground happens to do some shimmying and shifting that the pool structure for the vinyl pools will shimmy and shift with it.

The way fiberglass stands up to time is unbelievable. Fiberglass is made in such a way that it even can withstand getting tore up from even earthquakes. Fiberglass pools are able to move with the quaking and that is why they do not get as tore up as concrete pools. Fiberglass pools in the winter are required to have so many gallons of water in them but if this water freezes too hard this could cause the fiberglass some problems. If you live in parts of the country that go into hard freeze temperatures you may want to consider concrete instead for your pool.

There are numerous ideas and actual plans for swimming pools that you will have to expend little time in getting them. You can have your research include such places as online pool design sites, pool stores, and even some magazines will help in making your pool special. You do need to consult your pool specialist of choice about questions about locating your pool on your property.

One thing you may want to add is a waterfall. Even if you like a more posh motif as far as decor a waterfall can be made to fit that style. Personally the waterfalls flowing down rocks sounds great and would really make anyone feel like they were on vacation. Another kind is a waterfall that is more like a sheet of water. Water sounds are most melodic to most people.

Diving boards come in a variety of sizes. They are also made from different materials such as fiberglass. You will totally enjoy this additional attachment to your pool. Many swimmers are also very good divers too. Need to think protectively about diving though so no one gets hurts.

Slides come in many formations. You can find tube slides, curvy slides and even ones that are a compact size. Some slides are water slides, which will keep the kids busy for hours. All kids like playing on slides and hitting the water fast. There are many models offered for your convenient shopping online or you can go to your pool store near your house.

You can truly have a gloriously unique pool. You may have to have help with coming up with the correct layout. On the other hand you may be able to transfer your ideas to paper well enough to design it yourself. Talk about saving gas this summer fix up your yard with a new pool and you won’t have to drive anywhere to have fun. Make the right choices in a pool and surrounding area like adding a grill and table for added festivities and you will have a good time for a long time in your new backyard retreat.

Bonsai Supplies…Make or Break?

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Rick Lasslett

With the wealth of information available to do with growing Bonsai trees, the novice can be quite overwhelmed. That may lead to you throwing your hands in the air and putting it in the too hard basket! However it is not as complicated as it seems. Start with a good reliable source of Bonsai supplies and jump in the water is fine!

Growing truly beautiful and long lasting Bonsai is more than a skill it’s an art. But before you can become a master of the art you must learn the skills. Using good quality supplies is a necessary crucial step in applying the skills you will learn, to achieve the best results. If your Bonsai supplies are not up to par, then you are behind the eight ball before you even start.

When you have the right supplies on hand that is one thing less you have to concern yourself with. You can now focus on the task before you without being limited by a lack of proper Bonsai supplies, be that tools, soil mix, fertiliser or whatever.

Proper Bonsai supplies meansjust that. Bonsai supplies that are appropriate for the job and of good quality. The last thing you want is for your tree to die because your soil mixture doesn’t drain well, or you need to prune immediately, but you find your shears are rusty and blunt.

You may think that it is not that important but I bet your plants would disagree with you.

Now this is not to suggest that unless you have on hand everything that is available in Bonsai supplies, you will fail to achieve a beautiful result. What you need most is the desire and patience to learn the skills, then practice those skills over time until you have mastered the art.

The odd failure is inevitable, but the successes are what will spur you on. Its the satisfaction and delight of transforming a tree that would normally be huge into a mature bonsai tree that will now be tiny. That’s a feeling that will carry you along to the next project.

Your Bonsai supplies will then be just another addition to your library of knowledge on the subject. When someone then asks you about Bonsai, you will have had the experience of success and failure to pass on your knowledge with the authority of one who knows.

Motorcycle Helmets - Why Do People Ride

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by John Daniele

There are various explanations as to why some many people enjoy riding motorcycles. To contradict the fable that most motorcycle riders are dangerous reports show that many more are very safety conscious than reckless and remember to wear their motorcycle helmets. Many sectors of the population have fun using their motorcycles. Men, women and young people all operate motorcycles on the streets today.

You are behind the times if you think everyone that rides motorcycle looks and acts like a thug. Motorcycles are even used by people to go to work at their offices these days. Since motorcycles are more economical than cars on gas many people leave their cars at home. More and more people may actually be using motorcycles if the price of gas keeps going up. Motorcycles are also used for recreation not just for getting to work.

A lot of riders say that motorcycles make getting there a whole lot more fun. But some people ride just for the enjoyment instead of trying to get from point A to point B for serious reasons. One can feel closer to nature on a bike with nothing dividing them from the open air and sounds of the outdoors. A feeling of freedom comes across some as they go down the roads of America and other countries. The know that the wind is whirling around them and sometimes blowing in their faces which their open face motorcycle helmets allow it to do.

Women enjoy getting away from the kids when riding motorcycles. Of course not all the women that ride our mothers. The ones that are mothers though understand that the kids need them to be careful riding. Women ride with a high sense of responsibility to be safe so they make sure to wear their motorcycle helmets.

Lets talk motorcycle helmets for a bit. There are helmets made in several styles. There are open face and full-face helmets among others. These styles can be designed for men or women and sized correctly for both. Even specially sized youth helmets are available. With correct sizing comes the right amount of protection.

Motorcycles are not easy to see in traffic sometimes but they are your best friends in parking lots when trying to find a spot. Motorcycles are simpler to handle than cars at least going slow but when at high speeds they can go out of control quite easily. A rider needs to learn how to be very skilled with their motorcycle to maximize how the motorcycle performs.

Motorcycles may indeed cost less than cars, but you do not want to ride in the rain so you usually need a car too. Also motorcycles require a bit more maintenance than a car. The biker does need to be dressed right for riding. A helmet and other protective clothing should be worn.

What is the purpose of leather on a biker’s outfit? It makes the outfit extremely waterproof. In an accident leather will not tear up as quick so it just may protect the rider from injury. There are some other materials that the biker clothes are being made from these days too like Kevlar. Some choose to wear this fabric instead of leather.

Now let’s go over what you need to do to enjoy your motorcycle. Learn how to maintain the bike appropriately. Outfit yourself with a safe helmet and other clothes to protect you. Inform yourself on how to most effectively use your motorcycle. When combining all this you will give yourself a very enjoyable experience with your motorcycle.

Motorcycle Helmets - Shoei Helmets

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by John Daniele

The Shoei Company is a Japanese manufacturer and distributor of high-tech motorcycle helmets which compete internationally at the high end of the market. Shoei helmets are famous for their aesthetic qualities, their toughness and durability and, in recent years, for their versatility as well. As an example of the latter, the Shoei helmet product line now includes the Hornet-DS, a rider-configurable helmet which makes this single helmet suitable for both on-road and off-road riding.

Shoei Helmets are not only functional, they are outstanding examples of industrial design. Good looking, even elegant, they protect the rider’s head, provide proper ventilation and still manage to look strikingly beautiful. The aerodynamically optimized design of the Hornet-DS is a great example. The nose piece stands out in a futuristic way that sets this helmet apart from other, less visually remarkable competitors. As with all Shoei Helmets there is a purpose to the design, however. The curves on the nose piece provide outstanding skull protection and air flow in addition to making a visual impression.

Regarding the toughness of the helmet, the earlier models of the modern Shoei helmets were introduced for use in the construction industry in Japan; the first motorcycle specific helmet being made in 1960. This helmet met the Japanese industrial criteria for robustness. The later versions of the Shoei helmets gave primary importance to the durability and crash resistance while designing the helmets. A sizeable majority of the company’s helmets met the standards of Snell Memorial Foundation’s M2005 rating. The Snell Memorial Foundation’s rating system has often been criticized for its strict rules regarding safety benchmarks. The models of the helmets that have received the Snell Memorial Foundation’s M2005 rating can be fairly judged to be the most reliable motorcycle helmets in the world. One key point to be mentioned is that the GRV helmet from Shoei was the helmet in which latest technologies such as carbon technology and Kevlar were first introduced.

In 1965 sales were boosted by the decision of the Honda Motor Company to endorse the Shoei Helmets in conjunction with Honda motorcycles. Since that time Shoei has remained at the forefront of their field. Many Shoei Helmets have won both safety and industrial design awards over the decades.

Despite being a well-known and sought after brand internationally, Shoei Helmets are all still manufactured in Japan. The Shoei company takes great pride in keeping their entire manufacturing operation under close supervision in their Iwate, Japan plant, where all products are make. It is no wonder that Shoei Helmets are prized not only in Japan but in the United States and other countries as high quality and desirable helmets for all kinds of motorcycle riding.

Buck Rubs

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Ethan O. Tanner

Buck rubs are not the result of velvet shedding, nor are they made because bucks are deliberately trying to polish their antlers. It’s true that during the process of removing velvet, bucks do some rubbing on trees and saplings, but they usually complete this whole process within twenty-four hours. Rising testosterone levels cause bucks to become more aggressive, which drives them to advertise themselves through scent marking. Essentially, this is the purpose of rubbing. In a strict sense, white-tailed deer are not territorial; however, rubs do serve to inform deer of the social hierarchy within a given area.

Buck rubs are part of the communication system of deer. We detect rubs-the white scars of the deer forest-by sight. More likely deer detect them by smell. When a buck rubs a sapling, he deposits scent from glands in the forehead, and he will also pause to actually lick the rubbed tree or sapling. Other bucks visit that rub to detect these pheromones, or chemical messages. Bucks do not make rubs with their antler tines, but rather with the ridges on the base and burr of the antlers. As if using a vegetable shredder, the buck grates the bark from the tree into long strings, which he frequently eats.

When locating buck rubs while scouting, a significant clue remains the diameter of the tree. It’s true that large bucks will rub small trees, but rarely do small bucks rub large trees. Thus when you find a rub that sticks out in terms of tree size, you can be quite certain it was made by a big buck. Also keep in mind that the scrapes of a buck will generally be found within 100 to 200 yards of his rubs.

Generally small bucks do not make many rubs. Large bucks prevent small bucks from breeding, so small bucks have little need to advertise their presence. The more dominant a buck, the more active his forehead scent glands and the more rubs he makes. The rubs of a dominant buck serve as sign-posts to inform other bucks of who is “the boss” in a certain area. The companions of the dominant buck will freely travel the same range’ however, they heed the warnings the lead male posts and act submissively whenever he’s in the immediate vicinity.

Research shows that an individual buck may make 500 or more rubs in a single season. The 100 to 300 figure, however, is probably more common. Nonetheless, this amounts to at least one or more rubs per day over a four-month period for the average buck. It is not strange to see forty young, even-aged timber such as aspen.

Regardless of where you find the white-tailed deer, bucks seem to prefer saplings with a strong resinous sap above all others. Pine remains a favorite softwood species for rubbing as well as cedar, tamarack and balsam. In hardwoods, black cherry and apple are common targets for rubs. Bucks also rub wooden fence posts and power line poles. Bucks often return to the same tree for rubbing, and the same tree may be rubbed several times over a period of years. Some of the smaller saplings die after the first rubbing, but many trees survive the first and subsequent wounds.

Breeding rubs differ entirely in their appearance from rubs made in early fall. These savage rubs, the white scars of the deer forest, frequently damage or kill bushed. Branches and roots in and around the main target. Look for an area with a high density of breeding rubs, for being in an area with big rubs results in seeing big bucks. Watch particularly for areas that exhibit vigorous rubbing activity over a period of many years in the same small spots.
