6 Powerful Ways To Stay Honest With Your Actions & Goals!

August 7, 2008 by Kenny Lindsay · Leave a Comment

by Kenny Lindsay

It can be easy in life to be less than 100% truthful with ourselves when it comes to our actions. In a personal development endeavour this happens when you get ‘faked out’ and pretend to yourself that you’re doing the right thing when you actually aren’t. In the following article are some excellent ways to ensure you’re not faking progress to yourself but, in fact, are moving forward with great strides.

One of the most effective ways to know for sure if you’re making progress with your goals is to track it. Tracking can easily be done by making a chart so that you can have proof in front of your eyes which shows whether you’re actually doing what you should be doing. If you’ve committed to a home study course in order to learn some new skills and decide to study for 40 minutes everyday then you can make a chart, hang it up on your wall and then you’ll have accurate records in front of you everyday which show precisely what steps you’ve taken towards the goal.

It’s of the utmost importance that you be honest with yourself and don’t try and deny reality and the facts. Some ‘gurus’ in the personal development industry advise the use of affirmations to get your actions to improve, however, it’s important not to mistake saying the affirmations for following through and taking the actions you know you must. With or without affirmations, you still take action to achieve the outcomes you desire.

The self development industry at its best is a wonderful source of inspiration and useful advice, however, at its worst it can lead to delusion and looking for miracles which aren’t going to happen. It’s important to evaluate the self development resources that you are using to improve your life and make sure they are full of solid principles that have worked for many people for many years and aren’t just the latest fads or hype designed to drain your wallet and leave you with nothing but dashed hopes.

Be honest about the conditions you’re faced with and the opportunites that are available. For example, if you are now 45 years old and just starting in business then to set a goal to get in the Forbes 100 Richest List would be a poor target and almost impossible. However,if you set a goal to take the company to seven figure in revenue within 5 years you’d have a target which was realistic but still very challenging and exciting.

Try and get a friend who is also setting goals and trying to do positive things with his/her life. If you can pair up to encourage each other and monitor each others’ progress then it can be a powerful influence on both of your lives. The most important thing when setting up this sort of goal partnership is to be honest and tell your buddy if they are slipping up and not taking the actions that they should be.

How To Motivate Yourself To Achieve Your Goals

August 7, 2008 by Kenny Lindsay · Leave a Comment

One of the problems that faces many people on a daily basis is getting motivated to achieve their goals. They very often know what it is that they want but just can’t get themselves to follow through. In the following article there are great techniques that you can use to get yourself motivated and into a mode of action for achieving your goals.

A powerful tactic to use is to think about what you’ll lose out on if you don’t take action and follow through. If you can associate pain to the failure that comes from not following through, then you’re more likely to get motivated and do whatever it takes to succeed.

A great motivation inducing practice is to stop perceiving the task that you’ve decided to accomplish as being so massive by breaking it down into smaller, more easy to negotiate steps. By breaking it down and only focussing on the little tasks you’ll become more inspired since it seems far more realistic to take small steps and by taking some action you’ll start to get momentum to take you to the next level.

It is important when motivating yourself that you reward yourself along the way rather than depriving yourself until the final victory.Achieving anything worthwhile is going to take time and energy and so it’s important that to make the journey towards your goal more enjoyable that you celebrate the little successes along the way since these are what propels you to you destination.

A fun method of motivating yourself can be to start a bet with a family member that if you don’t achieve your target by a specific date then you automatically must pay them a sum of money. It is important that you keep to the bet, regardless of outcome, in order that the motivation be genuine and not something you can go back on your word on.

A public declaration that you’re going to succeed is another very powerful weapon in the arsenal of anyone wanting to get leverage on themselves to succeed. If you want to improve your golf handicap by 5 strokes in a year then by telling everyone, including your doubters, at the clubhouse will definitely give yourself more motivation to succeed in order to avoid the potential embarrasment that could come from your clubmates if you don’t succeed.

If you don’t seem to be able to get yourself excited about a certain goal then you might decide to give up this goal and go after something else. There is no shame in turning your back on a goal and every reason to do so if it frees you up to set a new goal which will get you really excited and motivated.

A mental technique which you should definitely use is to vividly imagine what your life will be like when you accomplish your goals. By seeing the possiblity of great new things materialising in your life in the future it will increase your motivation to take action in the present so that when you arrive in the future it’ll be brighter and better.

Success Tips: 5 Simple But Effective Ideas

July 30, 2008 by Kurt Schmitt · Leave a Comment

by Kurt Schmitt

Here are 5 success tips that you can use to juice up your life, your work, or your business. These are precise, easy to understand, and simple to implement concepts. They are also very powerful and effective.

1. Get rid of stuff — You can pretty much buy a product that promises to solve almost any problem, and some of us buy them all. There are products that will teach you how to earn more income, get out of debt, or improve your golf swing.

A side effect of this consumer oriented society is that we end up with too much stuff. Most of this stuff we never use. Much of it doesn’t perform as we expected when we do use it.

We have exercise equipment that promised to make us thin, but we never use; movies that we bought on DVD, but never watch. We own bikes we never ride, and books we never read.

Too much junk clogs up our lives. We need to do a spring cleaning, both inside and out, and get rid of the clutter so we have room for new things.

Doing this spring cleaning exercise allows us to have fewer, but more powerful thoughts. It also allows us to become more focused and more effective in our actions.

2. Stop chasing success — Stop chasing success and looking for the big score. Instead, become task oriented and tackle and complete each task set before you. Set your goals and then become a magnet for the things you want. Envision in your mind what it is you want, and then break down the steps into tasks that are easy to do. The less you chase success, the more likely it is to come your way.

3. Create daily habits — Replace bad habits with good ones. Choose 10 things that inspire you and create habits around those things.

4. Complete your work now — We know that procrastination is a huge impairment to success. Most of us, however, will put off starting a project until almost the last minute. Yet, somehow, we still manage to get things done on time.

If you can finish a project in a day instead of a week, then start immediately and complete it on the first day, and not the last. You can use the remaining time to work on personal goals, your part-time business, or something else that inspires you.

5. Know what you want — Decide on what you want. Decide to commit to your decisions, to take action and follow through, and decide to accept the consequences of your actions.

For the next 5 months, add one of these success tips each month. In a short time, you’ll see an improvement in the results you get in each aspect of your life and work.

Overcoming Challenges

The driving spirit of a person will determine their success. It’s not something that comes from a privileged background. Bonnie St. John can testify to this fact. Bonnie has seen success beyond most people’s wildest dreams through the Olympic Games, but it’s hard to imagine that success if you believe the stereotypes all around you.

Bonnie St. John grew up a poor black girl from a broken home in San Diego. To make matters worse, she only had one leg. The other was amputated when she was only five years old. She had no money and no snow, but she wanted to be a skier. To her advantage, her mother encouraged this crazy dream.

People will tell you that black people never ski, swim, or play golf, but this is 100% untrue. Sure there are a few big names out there like Tiger Woods, but in reality, there are a lot of black people involved in these sports. One of Bonnie’s motivations from a very early age was to do her best so that others could be motivated by her.

As a child, a friend named Barbara Warmath invited Bonnie St. John on a ski trip with her family over Christmas. This wasn’t just any old invitation. Keep in mind that Bonnie was the girl who was exempt from PE classes, rode a special bus, and was teased by the other kids. This trip was the chance of a lifetime from someone who was a true friend.

To say that Bonnie was excited about the trip is quite an understatement, but she had several obstacles to overcome before she could go. How would she be able to ski gracefully when she had only one good leg? How would she get the equipment she needed without any money? Without the luxury of the internet, she turned to the Yellow Pages and the Salvation Army.

Skiing definitely did NOT come naturally to Bonnie St. John. She could barely hop or walk without her prosthesis, so skiing was a much bigger challenge than she had anticipated. She didn’t even know what gear to buy, so her hands were freezing in the wet, knit mittens from all the falls. Bonnie enjoyed the challenge, though. To her, this was fun.

Through the Ski Club, Bonnie St. John was later able to get appropriate ski attire and begin ski lessons. She found other amputees who weren’t only skiing, they were racing. Bonnie joined in the fun and decided that still wasn’t enough. She wanted to train for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team.

Anyone can have success in their life. Each of us has our own obstacles to overcome. Some are tougher than others, but all can be achieved with some creativity and determination. Never give up on your passions. Live your life to the fullest, and get up each time you fall.

How To Grow a Leadership Culture in Your Company: 3 Easy Steps

July 29, 2008 by Rha K. Cardinale · Leave a Comment

by Rha K. Cardinale

A culture of leadership is vital to the success, at least the continued and long-standing success, of any company or business in Australia today.

It was once the case that a company looked to one leader to inspire them by his or her example, much as a rugby or football coach could take a team of average players and lead them on to a championship victory. Those days, sadly, are nearly gone. Business moves so fast these days with so much data to keep track of and so many new products and services continually emerging that there simply cannot be just one leader in many companies. Instead, a company needs a whole culture of leadership within itself which promotes those who take initiative to make things happen for the company when called upon to do so. Each department within a company, in fact, requires a leader or leaders of its own.

The dynamic and globally reaching economy of New South Wales demands the presence of this new ethos in business; a culture of leadership which works in tandem with the national economic strategies of the nation of Australia as it continues to go strong into the new century. The state of NSW says in its economic plans: “a strong economy allows us to provide the excellent services such as healthcare, education, and policing which the public expects…we are…innovative people who want a society built on fairness, equity, and collaboration…(a) society built on these principles will be more productive, wealthier, and fairer.”

This is also the way the 21st century company should be run.

FIRST STEP: BUILDING TRUST AND A SHARED VISION

A company’s top management needs to get everyone in the organisation on the same page. Everyone has to want the same things and share extremely similar objectives for the company. In this way, everyone’s individual and departmental efforts are going toward the same ends, reducing strife and maximising productivity of the company as a dynamic organisation. When people in a company feel inspired and feel that they are creating value, they are naturally motivated and whatever individual leadership talents they possess naturally begin to emerge for the benefit of all.

In a company where everyone shares a vision for the future of the organisation, trust will flourish, as will innovation and the willingness to take calculated risks which can cause explosive growth,

This can be a difficult goal to achieve, however, because people are used to always competing in business. Top management needs to guide people into sharing their personal, human side, such as by having people (themselves, too) share their personal histories with their groups and teams and eventually perhaps in large company-wide meetings.

STEP TWO: EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITIES

People within the company must be brought around to a way of thinking which lets them take new and different possibilities into account. This is the way that top management thinks, but this view must be inculcated company wide. People have to be shown that it is OK to think outside the box and come up with truly new ways of doing things. One way to do this is to get people to sit down and think about some questions which pertain to them personally. These can include: “where do you see yourself in five years? In ten? How about your retirement party, what do you think will be said about you?” Questions about what are the positives - and the negatives of the company could be asked, along with questions dealing with how to handle unforeseen events are good ways to foster this sort of creative thinking.

Management needs to digest the answers and then share them with department or team leaders, eventually distilling them to all of the employees and getting everyone to further reflect on and contemplate what has been learned.

STEP THREE: ESTABLISHING AN ACTION PLAN

Now that employees are all on the same page and they and management know what possibilities to explore to make the company more prosperous, a sharply focused plan of action for the business that includes roles for everyone can be drawn up. Different groups and teams take on different goals that all get directed toward the same shared goals and vision, with top management acting as the guiding force.

With a culture of leadership now established, a company can be more productive, forward thinking and of course, profitable.

How to Recognize the Leadership Power You Possess

July 29, 2008 by Rha K. Cardinale · Leave a Comment

by Rha K. Cardinale

Are leaders born or made? That’s a debate that’s been going on for years. Both sides feel that they have the proof for their position and that they’re right. The reality is, though, that both are right. You have been born with what you need to become a leader. You may not realize you have these qualities, but you do. If you don’t realize you have these qualities, you can still go out and learn them.

Bottom line, you have everything you need to be a great leader. Find those qualities within yourself. Becoming a leader is a process, and not an end result. You’re not going to be a follower today and all of a sudden become a leader tomorrow. When you find the leader within you, it’s a journey that you’re going to need to be dedicated to you.

As a side note, it’s important to mention that people who are leaders in their industry, leaders in their jobs are also leaders in their personal lives. Being a leader isn’t something that can be simply turned on and off. This is because leadership isn’t a job, it is the type of person you are, and it is who you are.

What qualities do leaders possess? For one, leaders need integrity. This is in fact the single most important quality anyone has. If people are going to follow you, they’re going to do what you’re asking. Because of this, you must be moral and ethical. You also have to follow through on what you say. If you have integrity, you’re not going to do anything you’d be ashamed to tell your children or your grandparents.

To be a leader, you also need to be consistent. You need to weigh your options, decide on which way you want to go, and then go. Don’t walk into your company one day and say that you’re going to do something to increase your company’s profile in the industry or bring in new customers and then the next week reverse direction and say that you need to cut the project budget and downgrade company technology. Establish a goal once you know what you want to do and then work towards that goal every day to achieve it.

Having a deep understanding of your business is important in being a successful leader. Educate yourself as people like to deal with other people that actually know what they are talking about, and can tell them what their company can do for them. You can’t fake this. I am sure you know what I am talking about; you have talked to a “professional” that didn’t really have a clue as to what they are talking about. You just shake your head and walk away. So make sure you know your business.

Of course, you’re going to make mistakes; everyone does. And the key to good leadership is that you have to own up to it when you do so. Don’t hide it, don’t deny it, and don’t pretend it didn’t happen. If you do this, you’re going to lose respect from those you need it most from. In addition, you’ll need to be able to listen and take opinions and criticisms from others, perhaps direction as well. Make decisions. Listen to other people, but if the decision is yours to make, you’ll need to make the final decision. If you know how to do so, you can bring out your own leadership qualities and make sure they are present in every area of your life.

The Secret of Success

July 17, 2008 by Brian Sylvan · Leave a Comment

by Brian Sylvan

According to Jim Rohn, a leading personal development expert, most people don’t succeed because of neglect.

Does that mean that the secret of success then is the opposite of neglect? The thesaurus states the antonym of neglect is to care for or to look after. But this does clear things up to much. Perhaps looking to Jim Rohn’s wisdom will help us understand.

Jim Rohn succeeded at an early age, 31. While most of his friends struggled, Jim Rohn became a millionaire. He says that he took care of what others neglected. He further says that it was early for him to do.

Jim took care of listening to successful people.

Jim took are of setting goals.

Jim Rohn read good books to improve his intellect and his attitude. His friends neglected to pick up the right kinds of books, or any books at all.

Rohn points out opportunities exist all around us. There’s plenty of money in the world. There are plenty of changes at education. There are plenty of jobs out there. There are an infinite number of different types of careers to try.

Why don’t we succeed? We neglect.

We neglect to try new things. We neglect to seek mentors. We neglect to ignore the naysayers. We neglect to work. We neglect to set goals. We neglect to keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity.

The problem with neglect is that it affects us, well, negatively. We suffer. Not usually in a physical way, but maybe, if you neglect to exercise and eat right.

Neglect affects our spirit. We lose faith in ourselves. Our self-esteem plummets. Our attitudes become decidedly negative. People around us are affected as well. We often let these people down. We lose confidence in our abilities. In our ability to succeed.

The only way to fight neglect is to do something. Act. As the old Nike saying goes, “Just Do It.” I say, “Do it now.”

Acting will remove neglect from your life. Period. So start doing something. Now.

Jim Rohn set goals. His friends neglected to put any goals down.

While his friends neglected to read books to improve their thinking, Jim Rohn took care of his mind and his positive thinking by filling his mind with the motivational words of the book he carefully chose.

Do we have enough opportunities? Yes. Is there enough money for everybody to get their piece? Yes. Can everyone get an education? Yes. Are there enough jobs? Yes. Is there something out there that you would be good at? Of course.

So why do we fail? Why do we live mediocre lives? Because we neglect.

Don’t neglect your life. Don’t neglect to surround yourself with worthwhile associates. Don’t neglect to set goals that ignite your passions and desires. Don’t neglect your attitude. Don’t neglect those around you.

Neglect will tear you down. Every time you neglect something in your life, you open your soul to decay. Eventually, you won’t recognize the person you’ve become.

Neglect affects our spirit. We lose faith in ourselves. Our self-esteem plummets. Our attitudes become decidedly negative. People around us are affected as well. We often let these people down. We lose confidence in our abilities. In our ability to succeed.

When you do something, anything, you will rid yourself of neglect.

Taking the Lemons of Life and Making Lemonade

July 5, 2008 by Elliott Roberts · Leave a Comment

by Elliott Roberts

It’s just as easy to have negative thoughts as it to have positive ones. That simplistic statement was coined by a great professional boxer named Sugar Ray Robinson. While the statement may seem obvious and over simplified, the truth is that many people find positive thinking to be a difficult chore.

Filling the mind with negative thoughts is similar to a disease. Those thoughts eat away at the mind and the happiness in life and they gain more and more strength the longer they are in the mind. For people who choose to think negatively instead of positively, it becomes almost second nature to find themselves in the midst of horrid situations. The realities of life become so ingrained in negative thought that they often find themselves lost to the world of happiness.

According to the millions of self-help books on the market today, negative thinking creates a negative energy that almost beings to control one’s life. On the other hand, practicing a more positive mind set can almost evoke positive feelings and thoughts thus changing the path of life. For those who are looking for the best ways to improve overall life happiness, positive thinking is at the heart of this goal.

Positive thinking is easy once you allow yourself to let go of the fear that holds you back. Yes, fear is what keeps negative thinkers from expecting the best. To expect the best means that you could potentially be let down and disappointed. However, it also gives you a better chance of succeeding. If you expect not to receive a call back from the interview for your dream job, then you will be less disappointed when you do not receive that call. However, on the other hand, if you have the confidence that you are qualified forthe job and do expect that call back, your potential employer may see that determination and decide you are exactly the person they are looking for to fulfill the position. The fear of failure keeps you from the things you want most while finding the courage to believe in the best may actually bring about the best.

Yet another trick to achieving those positive thoughts is confidence. Having confidence in the decisions you make, the achievements both personally and from within your job, the confidence to be all that you can be even if it takes a bit more work than the negative side of life.

Our lives are so very full of things that are positive, we often become blinded to their presence. If ever someone has said the phrase, you don’t know what you have until it is gone, this is exactly the thoughts that should drive your positive thinking. There are so many things in life that are positive achievements. Children, home, job, fitness, all take time and hope and they are all positive and thus hold the positive energy needed to break that negative cycle.

Dread is the major energy fuel for negative thinking. If a person takes the energy spent on dread, whether dreading a duty or dreading a job, and moves that energy to positive thoughts, life is a shining experience for the change. We all have the power to create the lives we want to live and if you believe in the false negatives of life, they will drain all hopes of positivity.

Life is all about our minds and the path our minds take to positivity. When we choose to live in the negative lights of life, the drain on our souls is evident in the lack of positive thoughts. Opening up our hearts to positive thinking will improve life and the chance of meeting all our positive dreams.

What Causes A Person To Procrastinate

July 4, 2008 by Allison Thompson · Leave a Comment

by Allison Thompson

There are a number of different that can cause to fail in their lives one of them being that the procrastinate far too much. Unfortunately procrastination can be so severe for some people that it prevents them from achieving what they want by placing obstacles of their own making in their way. It is through procrastination a person will choose a particular path to travel in their results which will not allow them to achieve their desired goals.

Unfortunately although you may not realize it, but you could actually be a procrastinator yourself. In this article we provide you with some pointers which will help you to identify and hopefully understand what procrastination is and whether you actually are one yourself.

1. A large number of procrastinators (around 20%) will soon identify that they are chronic procrastinator’s and will know that it leads to them leading a particular kind of lifestyle. The lifestyle they lead will often intrude into all aspects of their life causing it to be very difficult to lead what is considered to be a normal life.

2. For many procrastinators actually managing what time they have available to them in order to complete a certain task is not a problem. Rather they will find it more difficult to sit down and work how just how much time it is they need in order to complete the task in hand.

3. Although some people believe that we are born as procrastinators this is not the case. Many people will learn to procrastinate over time and will learn about it as they grow up. If for example you happen to be a child from a family where there was controlling figure (say the mother or father) then you are more likely to procrastinate than don’t have this kind of person in their lives. Children from such families will find it more difficult to control the way they act and how to deal with certain issues and problems for themselves.

4. For some procrastinators they will rely far more on other substances to help them avoid the effects that their procrastination is having on their lives. For quite a few they will turn to alcohol or other substances which can help to numb or block out the effects and causes of their procrastination. They may especially rely on these things at those times in their lives when they think things are really bad even when they are not.

5. For quite a large number of people who procrastinate they will often use ways to distract themselves so that they can avoid doing those things that they don’t like to do or they don’t feel that they can do. Often they will do a task that they find easy to complete rather than going for the one they know they must do but which they see as far too difficult. This is because they feel that they do not have the right set of skills or abilities in order to achieve the required state of completion.

Yet for those who have identified that they do procrastinate there are certain things that they can do which can help them to make changes and fight procrastinating. Although it is important that when looking for ways to prevent yourself from procrastinating that the changes you make will take time to help you. A person can undergo cognitive behavioral with a trained therapist as a way of making the necessary changes in their lives as well as to understand better why the procrastinate.
