Wine clubs are the place for wine lovers

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by June Beezy

Wine clubs are popping up all over the place - not only because of our passion and pure love for wine, but mainly the reason is of a basic need to gather and discuss subjects that are intimate to us and we just want to share it with the rest of the world.

Wine has been labeled good for our health by various experts in the medical industry, a lot of people are becoming extremely interested in what this true gift of god wine is all about and how to choose the best ones. The great thing about wine is that it is priced for every budget. Just because a wine is less expensive, don’t let that fool you because some of the wines that I’ve had are the cheapest ones.

It is no secret that wine making is getting popular faster than any other hobby. It is quietly gathering a large following especially in countries outside of North America, it is truly phenomenal. So if you feel like that you would love to learn more about wine and taste different kinds of wine, just start a wine club.

To get started, first find the main organizer for the club. The person who contacts other wine lovers in the group regularly and set’s up meetings. If you think you can be the wine club leader, go for it!

So how many members do you need initially? Five to ten members work just fine. Trust me, once you start managing your own club with this amount of people, it will be really easy, almost habitual when you do get to a group with a large amount of people in it.

You are probably wondering well how will I get to try out new wines every month. The information can be found everywhere, including on the internet, wine magazines and don’t forget your local wine or wine making shop.

You’ll also want to have a great selection of wine glasses on hand. They can be inexpensive, but be sure that you have enough so that each person has his own glass for each type of wine that you’ve selected.

The best to things to discuss at your first wine club meeting would be just the entire process of making wine. You’ll be surprised on how simple and easy it is. Plus new members who have no idea about the wine making process will really appreciate it.

Remember to focus on the educational aspect of the wines. You’ll need rating charts that are available at wine shops, on line and through wine magazines. Each of your members will be rating the characteristics of the wines. Then, you can compare them to see if you all agree.

Just like any good club, starting a wine club is a great way of meeting beautiful people just like yourself who love wine and sharing it with others. Wine is truly a gift and the more people you drink it with, the more fun you will have.

Coffee’s Story: From Simple Bean to Capuccino

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Kurt Schefken

The coffee bean has come a long way since its inception over two thousand years ago. It has virtually, become a market in and of itself as it now is a commodity with a monetary value only behind that of oil.

Although there are many varieties of beans, its plant falls into two main categories: the arabica or the robusta. Contrary to wine, the coffee berry (sometimes referred to as a ?cherry?) is valued for the bean inside as opposed to the fruit. After being aged, roasted, ground and brewed, this bean is what makes the four hundred million cups of coffee consumed daily throughout the world.

The beans are, generally, either green or red. The red beans have a higher aroma oil but a lower acidic content and, as such, as used in the finer brews. For this reason, picking is one of the most important stages of a coffee bean?s life cycle.

Most beans are hand-picked at a rate of only a few baskets daily. Separating the red and green beans is really a rather valued skill as it has a great impact on the final product. Once picked, the fruit is removed and the beans are washed to remove any skin still remaining on the bean. The beans are produced during this fermentation stage and then dried in the sun over concrete or rock slabs until there is only a twelve percent water content. The beans are then sorted either by size and color and aged anywhere from three to year years, while some are roasted within one year.

While being roasted at 400-degrees Fahrenheit, the beans eventually expand almost double in dry size, crack and change from a green to brown color as the oil inside is released. This oil is what gives different coffees their basic yet distinct taste.

There is a wide array of in-house roasting techniques. In Java and Kenya, for instance, the beans are often lightly roasted to produce their own distinct flavor. The beans are then de-gassed by being packaged in semi-permeable bags generally prepared for shipping.

The resulting beans are then ground to a variety of styles and sizes, ranging from a choppy, inconsistent sized granule to very homogenous-sized granule or powdery appearance for some coffees.

The final result is then brewed. There are almost as many different styles and techniques of brewing as there are brewers, yet all fall into the categories of pressure, boiling, steeping and gravity. When ?boiling,? hot water is run through the grounds after which they are filtered or settled. The pressure style, as with an espresso, forces lukewarm water through the grounds at a high rate of pressure. The gravity method drips hot water onto the grounds and the filter, whereas the steeping method is similar to using tea bags to make tea yet with coffee grounds instead.

Though coffee now ranges from a low-cost item to a pricey, specialty item, the history and journey to the stores and shops is much the same. Just something to think about the next time you are enjoying a hot cup of your favorite brew!

A Dull Knife in Your Kitchen Makes You a Bad Cook!

Thanks for visiting our WorldVentures site.

by Robert Cooksey

The most expensive knife isn’t necessarily the best. If you don’t keep your knives up in good condition, they won’t be easy to cook with, no matter how costly they were. It’s vital to have the right knives and be able to make sure they’re in good shape, if you want to have an efficient kitchen and avoid accidents.

Every cook should have a good chef’s knife. A chef’s knife has a large handle, and blade that’s wide at the base but tapers to a point. These can be used for almost all your kitchen tasks, and it’s not really worth it to get a full knife set. Instead, invest in a single good chef’s knife that will hold an edge, and keep it good and sharp.

However, not all chef’s knives are the same. They come in a variety of different sizes, which are measured by blade length. The smallest all purpose knife you should buy is about eight inches long (without the handle). While you might think a small knife is easier to handle or safer, it’s not necessarily. You can use a large knife to cut smaller objects, but a small knife won’t work for large ones.

The variety of knives can be bewildering, since even an eight inch chef’s knife comes in examples between fifteen and a hundred and fifty dollars. Look for a knife that’s around twenty-five dollars if you’re on a budget, but more money can get you a more attractive knife. A significant overhang below the handle will help you keep it sharp.

You might have heard that a costly knife will hold it’s edge longer. That’s not really true. Good steel does keep an edge better than the cheapest metal, but cutting any sturdy root vegetable will cause the edge to go out of true. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a mediocre knife or one that’s top of the line. To help fix this, use a steel to straighten the edge on a daily basis. Steels are the long sticks you’ve probably seen with knife sets, and are traditionally made from steel. However, many are not ceramic or diamond. Using a steel is just a matter of swiping it down the side of the knife at a twenty degree angle, but this takes some experience. For those who aren’t comfortable with this process, there are also a few easier options.

You can get knife and tool sharpeners that have their own built in angle, eliminating guesswork. With them, you can straighten a knife edge without needing skill. Just hold the knife with the edge up, tip hanging off the counter’s edge. Swipe the sharpener over the edge a few times, and you’ll get a much sharper blade. However, this kind of sharpener can reduce the life of your knife, taking metal off the edge. Still, a knife that’s sharp and lasts a few years is better than a dull one for a lifetime.

No matter how you decide to sharpen, be sure to wash and dry them both before and after. Once you get used to a good edge, it’ll be more obvious when knife are getting dull. It gets a lot harder to cut, particularly tough objects. If you want to test a knife, slide the tip of the blade along the skin of a peach or tomato without pressure. If the knife is sharp, it’ll split the skin.

Always treat your knife carefully, too. Don’t use a granite or glass cutting board, because they’ll hurt the edge. Instead, a plastic or wood cutting surface is preferred. Also, wash and dry the knife immediately after use to prevent a sink full of dishes from taking the edge off.
