Why Pay Attention to Your Skin Care Products?

October 13, 2008 by Kyle Richey · Leave a Comment

by Kyle Richey

Arent all skin products basically the same? They all promise the same results, probably using the same ingredients, dont they? So you can just buy any brand at any shop since they re all the same anyways, right? This is in fact NOT the case. While some skin care products perform exactly as advertised, others are best avoided entirely. Some skin care products even contain chemicals and additives that can irritate you skin and make matters worse rather than better!

The question is, how does one know good from bad in the crowded skin care products market? How can you find the products that actually deliver the results that they promise? Its easier than you think, once you know what to look out for and what to avoid.

Your skin is going to react adversely to chemicals and other elements that it’s not meant to absorb, so you may want to stick with skin care products that are free of dyes, perfumes, and other additives that can irritate your skin. Look for those that are branded as hypoallergenic, meaning they don’t contain products that people are typically allergic to.

You can also check out organic skin care products which are made from natural ingredients and not all those irritating chemicals.

Skin needs to be fed with adequate vitamins and minerals for optimum health, so check for skin care products containing vitamins A, C and E.

Vitamin A helps your skin gain healthier tone by evening out redness for a more even tone.

Vitamin C encourages the production of collagen in the skin, which makes it look fresher and younger.

Vitamin E is one of the best natural moisturizers. A lot of skin care products out there have these vitamins; you should seek these products out. Pure vitamin E oil is available and can be used as a moisturizer on its own in addition to your other skin care products. Vitamin E oil will help your skin stay smooth, soft and healthy looking.

There are other things you can do for your skin too. You can use a warm mist vaporizer or humidifier, especially in the wintertime. This helps to keep the atmosphere moist and warm. Your skin absorbs this moisture. It is wise to drink a lot of water, so you can nourish your skin from the inside out and keep it healthy and moist.

Watching your diet is also an important part of keeping your skin healthy and wrinkle free for as long as possible. Those vitamins and minerals from foods like fruits and vegetables are going to nourish your skin as well. This too will help those skin care products do their job effectively. You obviously can’t expect them to perform miracles or overcome your poor habits if you don’t eat right and drink water.

The most important thing is to really look at the products you are using on your skin and make sure you have chosen the best skin care products for you. Also, drink plenty of water and watch what you eat. If you do all this, your skin should be radiant, healthy and wrinkle-free for years to come.

Contemporary Women And Their Mr. Right

September 25, 2008 by Pam Baldwin · Leave a Comment

by Pam Baldwin

Finding herself in the burgeoning era of the 21st century, todayas woman has a myriad of standards she expects to find in a future partner. The women of today are grounded in their own plans, goals, and careers. Declaring judgment upon the man in her life has become a fastidious, abrupt process in which she determines the favorable and reasonable factors of his character.

She has accomplished everything she set out to do thus far, finished college, got a great job. She is happy, but decides it is time to consider a more serious relationship than she experienced while in school. She will not treat her opportunities in love any more lightly than she has her professional opportunities, she will make a conscious deliberate decision.

What will she desire of a partner? All of the traits she desires will be contingent on her personality, values, and past experience. She may desire a man similar to her; one who is as driven and dedicated in his professional life. She may also desire someone similar to her father, who will create a home with her that mirrors the one she grew up in. Or she could desire a total opposite, a challenge, someone who has a completely different world view with whom she can share different and new experiences.

Considering all of these options, her choices will be as varied as the women themselves. Finding a man who mirrors herself she would expect to find a man who is not lazy, one who puts forth much effort into his goals. She would be expecting to find a hard working man, a man who leaves no stone unturned, and finds quitting no option in life. This type of woman would find attractive qualities in a man who puts his own sense of self first and foremost.

If she is searching for someone she can recreate her parents relationship with there are different qualities to look for there as well. Perhaps her childhood home was presided over by parents completely committed to one another, who took most seriously their pledge of loyalty to one another and faithfulness. Or her parents could have had vastly different personalities that never the less fit together comfortably and ended with them recounting their separate days at dinner. She could have also potentially found her childhood home a lonely place with little affection or devotion and could still be comfortable living that way. She would be looking for a man capable of little intimacy, someone who shares her life only as much as he shares her space in the home.

Some women want and search for excitement and stimulation. She would desire provocation of thought and action. This type of woman may like a man who is eclectic, flits from one ideal to another, and creates a sense of anonymity. This man would be creative, fearless and rebellious.

We might not determine what type of man a woman wants because she may not have decided herself. There are as many types or women as there are men. She could desire a man who has all of these qualities. She might want someone who is diligent in his career, and yet often crazy in his free time, someone a little out of the ordinary.

We should never forget that like men, women search for the traits they find most attractive. They will be looking for men who they desire mentally and physically. Women are mysterious creatures often defying explanation; and accepting that mystery as inevitable will bring you closer to what their ideals really are.

Why Worry About Skin Care?

September 4, 2008 by Kyle Richey · Leave a Comment

by Kyle Richey

If you’re like most people, you probably have some quick skin care routine at night that involves wiping your face with a wet washcloth before dropping into bed, and not much else. We rarely give serious consideration to how we take care of our skin and assume that those who have very nice tone and texture to their skin are just blessed.

In reality it’s actually a very good idea to think about our skin care routine as there is much that we can do to improve our skin tone and to prevent things such as blemishes and wrinkles, if we start early enough and follow this routine regularly.

In some cases, genetics do trump all other factors in the condition of ones skin. In these cases there isnt much that can be done. But many skin problems such as breakouts can be averted by adhering to a skin care regimen. Just make certain that this routine is suited to your skin type and is one that works for the sensitive skin of the face.

Some people go overboard when it comes to skin care and are overly rough or harsh when they cleanse, using soaps and cleansers that are just going to strip their skin of its natural oils and moisturizers. They may do this because they feel that if their skin is breaking out that this means they need to cleanse more or use stronger products. Actually, they could be doing a lot of damage to their skin and even causing these breakouts from cleansing too much. A good skin care routine means using products that are specifically designed for the face, and using them properly.

Moisturizing on a regular basis is also important for proper skin care. Sometimes when a person has oily skin they think they should skip this step but there are many areas on the face that don’t have oil glands on or near them, and these are the places that typically get wrinkles. This includes around the eyes and the mouth.

Even if you have oily skin you should make regular moisturizing, especially in these areas, part of your skin care routine. If you fail to moisturize you could actually be causing your body to produce more oil as it does this when it feels the skin is too dry - those oil glands work harder to produce more oil and this clogs your pores.

You may find that your skin becomes less oily with regular moisturization ” this is because you are no longer stressing this sensitive skin, causing it to overproduce the skins natural oils. This means healthier skin for you.

Wrinkles are a fact of life, as are blemishes and other skin problems. Even with the best skin care routine you’ll probably have something you’ll need to deal with at one time or another.

However, just like regular exercise and eating right are the best tools against obesity and weight gain, regular skin care is the best tool against serious problems with your skin, and for having healthy and radiant skin.

Intolerance: A Lost Christian Virtue

September 3, 2008 by Dan LaLond Jr. · Leave a Comment

by Daniel LaLond Jr.

Popular opinion in these early years of the twenty-first century has assailed our minds with “politically correct” sentiment. In keeping with this viewpoint a garbage man ought to be dubbed a “sanitation engineer” and a short person is not short he is “vertically challenged.” Even the term thief might offend so we should adopt the more tolerant “ethically disoriented.” This paradigm bares its true farcical colors when traffic signs are marked in Braille so the blind aren’t offended!

This paradigm might even slip into evangelical Christian thought if biblical truths like “judge not lest ye be judged” are misunderstood. That is, many feel as though to “love” means that we should never be intolerant. Certainly no believer should want to needlessly offend, but when we tolerate what God judges we have capitulated to the society we should engage.

Many Christians oppose divergent moral behavior (at least in theory). In the name of “grace” or “mercy,” however, these believers will tolerate doctrinal divergence. Though the apostle Jude admonished first century Christians to “contend earnestly for the faith” perhaps most of us prefer to comfort rather than to contend. In tune with Jude, however, Paul also implored the church to be intolerant toward doctrinal divergence:

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple (Rom 16:17-18).

Regarding Romans 16:17 James Strong explains that the term mark them means “to take aim at.” Now, could the gracious and merciful apostle Paul possibly mean that Christians are to “take aim at” leaders inside the Christian church? Such a concept seems offensive and extreme when considered through today’s post-modern, “tolerant” mindset. Paul, however, plainly demonstrated the lost virtue of Christian intolerance when he warned Timothy about Hymenaeus and Philetus whose teaching “will spread like gangrene.”

Can you imagine the reaction a preacher today might receive if he said that another Christian leader’s doctrine “will spread like gangrene?” It’s easy to believe that Paul’s intolerance was probably always directed at some fringe teacher. Kindly consider, however, another example of Paul openly rebuking the most prominent church leader of early Christianity:

When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs (Gal 2:14).

In Galatians 2:14 Paul critiqued Peter because when trusted preachers proclaim errors others are mislead. Being intolerant toward doctrinal deviations isn’t sympathetic with modern live and let live ideology, but it is biblical. Even the Christians at the church of Pergamum in Rev. 2:15 did not need to guess about whose teaching to avoid. “You have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam,” warned the Lord, “who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice immorality.”

In contemporary Christianity gracious tolerance at the expense of doctrinal integrity is often held as a virtue. In the bible, however, Jesus insists that His church test its leaders and practice the virtue of intolerance toward those who err. Tolerating an errant leader in the church of Thyatira the Christians there garnered the believers there a reproof which echoed through the generations:

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols (Rev 2:20).

As Jezebel (and even Peter) were tolerated though they misled many early Christians, teachers who occupy mainstream, popular pulpits today are tolerated though they too lead the children of God astray. And in contrast to the just coexist secular slogans which can seem so “Christian” the only item on the menu is biblical intolerance as our modern pulpits are polluted and our spiritual cisterns are dry.

Obesity

September 3, 2008 by Patrick Glancy · Leave a Comment

by Sara Mendez

Obesity has taken center stage during many different discussions both nationwide and at the local level. From education to healthcare costs, people want to talk about it and find a solution. According to Obesityaction.org, in 2004 more than 21% of Oregon’s population was considered obese, that number rose to more than 23% in 2006. The causes for this upward trend are unlimited.

One of the reasons why obesity is on the rise is, the idea of an American family and dinner time has changed. Americans lead busy lives, in a typical family home, both parents work a forty hour week, most arriving home late. Those families would rather relax than think about making a well balanced meal for everyone. It is usually easier to pick up the phone and order carry out or a pizza. We all want to spend time with our families and watch our favorite TV program. The last thing anyone wants to think about is cooking after a long day at the office.

Often eating out is cheaper than making a home cooked meal. You can go to McDonalds and feed a family of four for fewer than twenty dollars. It is fast, easy and cheap. To feed a family of four a balanced meal, for example chicken with rice and a vegetable, costs more in both time and money. Foster Farms offers three chicken breasts in a package for around $9.00 at a local Fred Meyer here in Oregon. You would have to buy two in order to feed a family of four. One package of Uncle Ben’s instant wild rice only has two to three servings per container for $2.50 which means again you would have to buy two packages. For a bushel of broccoli can range in price from $1.00 per pound. Once you go to the grocery store, come home and make all this food, you evening is gone and so is over twenty dollars.

Lack of health choice at restaurants makes eating right difficult. According to Foodfacts.info, in 2005 fast food chain, Wendy’s, pulled their fruit salad option after only ten months on the menu, sighting low sales. Many fast food chains have started to offer healthier choices such as Subway which offers raisins and yogurt, and Wendy’s offers mandarin orange fruit cups in place of fries. Some sit down restaurants have followed suit such as Red Robin which will allow you to order either a petite hamburger patty or a Boca Burger substitute for any of their burgers. Unfortunately other places do not offer alternatives or the alternatives are not well advertised by the prospective restaurant. Red Robin might offer a Boca patty substitution but it is in fine print which is barley visible at the very bottom of their menu.

Serving sizes are something you are not in control of when eating out. Most restaurants fill your plate with fries and a giant burger. When the food comes, the presentation is nice and the food smells good, and since we are all in such a hurry, we devour the whole plate before we know it consuming double the empty calories.

Gastric bypass surgery is the second only to breast augmentation, as the most common surgery among young adults. The time is now for us to start setting a good example for all people and start making smarter choices of food, make the effort to cook healthy meals, and rethink what a serving size is. Sure it might require more effort and more time and sacrifice but when you look at the health risks and concerns associated with obesity, it just makes sense to spend a few extra dollars, a little more time and make a few better choices in order to make a better future for you and your family.

Gastric Bypass Surgery and You

August 13, 2008 by Patrick Glancy · Leave a Comment

by Sara Mendez

According to Obesitysurgicalcenter.org, 127 million adults in America are over weight. Of those 60 million are obese and 9 million severely obese. Gastric bypass and other similar surgeries are among the fastest growing elective surgeries in the country, next to breast augmentation. Gastric bypass is reserved for those who are morbidly obese, and for them, the benefits are endless. According to Obesehelp.net, a web site which explains the surgery, 75% of patients can expect to lose up to 80% of their body weight, 80% will be off hypertension medications and 90% with type two diabetes will be off medication as well, just to name a few.

It is important to understand, not everyone who has this surgery is successful in weight loss for many reasons and it can be dangerous. During the surgery, a section of stomach is sealed off to reduce the amount of food which can be eaten, if the seal is broken by over eating, the results can be serious. This is why many patients have follow up care which usually includes an overview of a healthy lifestyle. It touches on food choices, diet and exercise plans. Unfortunately many clinics neglect long term post care, however there are other ways of maintaining your healthy lifestyle.

Often people become obese because they do not understand what a healthy lifestyle is and why they eat so poorly. A healthy lifestyle is easy to learn all a patient has to do is visit with a dietitian and understand better choices. The hardest part is to put the tools into action and begin making a better choice. Learning why you eat so poorly is a whole other ball game. Some people eat when they are upset or depressed and some might simply be bored. Maybe there is a happy memory associated with food which makes you crave certain foods. Many have Gastric bypass surgery and are unsuccessful because they have not addressed all their issues with food, which requires help.

Maintenance care can come in many forms such as regular visits to dietitians, physicians and food counselors. However many post Gastric bypass patients choose to use hypnosis as maintenance care to the surgery. Hypnosis works with the mind by addressing problems or emotional blocks attached to food. Rarely does post care touch on the emotional bond a patient might have with eating and food. Hypnosis researches and finds out why food has become such an issue in your day to day life. Hypnosis is also perfect for combating cravings for favorite foods and replacing them with better healthier options such as exercise and health foods.

Using hypnosis makes your goals and expectations limitless since it deals with the mind making it very successful in those who are looking to lose or maintain weight. It helps you to see your memories, associations and feelings about food all at once and work through your issues. Some may feel a counselor, dietitian or physician would be a better choice for post surgical care instead. Visiting all those people should absolutely happen, however hypnosis is equally as great for long term goals of weight loss and helping to work through food emotions. You will gain a better understanding as to why you feel the way you do towards food and how you can regain control of your life and help make your Gastric bypass surgery the best it can be in a non threatening way.

Losing weight is difficult enough without all the fad diets, gimmicks and infomercials telling you to buy their new super diet product. However, it is important to research all the new methods and diets out there before making a final decision for something extreme like surgery. If you do elect surgery, consider using hypnosis as a tool in addition to your arsenal again your battle with the bulge.

Quick System To Setting Goals For Life

August 13, 2008 by Elliott Kosmicki · Leave a Comment

by Elliott Kosmicki

Famous speaker Jim Rohn said, “If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. What ever good things we build end up building us.”

Goal setting is indeed a tricky task. Every goal you wish to achieve has to begin as a thought. So the first step is to think. Evaluate your overall situation and define your goals.

The outline below are some basic steps for you - the simpler the better!

Your steps to making goal setting easy:

1. Give yourself realistic goals - Bring yourself up to your limits, then push yourself closer.

2. Write a list of supporting tasks - The more details here, the better.

3. Put your tasks in order - One thing at a time.

4. Set a time - Set your schedule for success, but give yourself a little room.

5. FINISH - You’ve gotta push yourself through to the end.

Give Yourself Realistic Goals

Figuring out your personal, financial, educational or business goals take a lot of thought on your part. Consider what you want to accomplish and journal notes along the way - even if you think it’s a small detail, it could be a critical part in your decision making later on.

“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.” - Henry Ford.

Take a few days at minimum to think about it. If you’ve ever seen a carpenter work, he says “measure twice, cut once.” If he doesn’t take the time to measure twice and cuts too short, his goal takes longer to achieve because he didn’t take the proper measures to ensure the success of his original plan. He has to use more materials, more time measuring again, cutting again and making his goal harder to reach because of poor planning.

If you set your goals too high, you might be setting yourself up to fail. You want to challenge yourself with the goal, but give yourself enough slack so you don’t get disappointed - all without making it too easy on yourself!

Write a List of Supporting Tasks

Give yourself definite goals and subgoals. Set aside time for each goal during your planning stage. Give yourself concise notes about how you think you’ll reach each goal and subgoal.

Prioritize Your Tasks

Ask yourself what you need to do to achieve your goals. Take great notes. Make a list of what you are willing to do, what you’re willing to sacrifice to make your goals a reality. Decide which goal is most important to you and make it number one on your list. The objectives and tasks included to achieve that goal are now your number one priority. After you achieve that first goal, set yourself up to go for the next one!

Define Your Time Frame

Work out your time frame. Make sure you have a realistic one. You don’t want to be looking 10 years down the road, upset at yourself for not staying focused! You’re the only one who can decide when you can reach your goals, and it’s only you who can make yourself succeed. Like the first step, Make Reachable Goals, you have to make a real time frame for every goal. Remember, challenge yourself, but don’t make it so hard that you quit.

FINISH

Besides thinking and mental planning, this is probably the most important step. If you don’t follow through, you aren’t going to achieve your goals. You can’t let yourself give up on you! If your goal is to lose 20 pounds, you can’t allow yourself to stop at 19. If your goal is to ace the big test coming up or get a promotion at work, don’t stop until you’ve achieved it!

Learn To Speak Spanish Software Review

August 12, 2008 by Adrian Fletcher · Leave a Comment

by Adrian Fletcher

It is generally agreed that immersion Spanish (living in a Spanish speaking country) is the best way to acquire Spanish language skills quickly and effectively. Primarily because you have a strong motivation to learn the language and daily opportunities to use and reinforce your learning. This is not always possible in your native country and can demoralize people as they see no benefits or progress with their learning. With this said, it is not possible for many people to up sticks and move to a Spanish speaking country. So what are the alternatives ? A good alternative is learn to speak Spanish software. This article will give you a learn to speak Spanish software review.

First of all, there is good reason to want to learn Spanish right now. More Spanish speaking people are choosing to live in the United States. In parts of the country, Spanish is as common as English as a language for business and social occasions. Learning the language can improve your chances to communicate with these people and do business with them. It also opens windows of opportunity in Latin America too.

So the popularity of learn to speak Spanish software is down to a couple of factors. The first is that it gives the person using the software choice. They can use it whenever they have some free time or they can set out a schedule, like an hour a night for a few months. This flexibility is a great benefit of software and other self study courses over, say, a class. This suits many people who lead busy lives, however using it infrequently won’t produce good results.

And possibly the most important reason why learn to speak Spanish software is popular is because it is as close to immersion Spanish as you can get if you use it properly.

The software draws on the powerful multimedia features that computers can bring to educational devices. So you can look and listen to Spanish conversations in videos. You can listen to Spanish audios. You can get cultural information about various regions of the world where Spanish is the native tongue. You can practice reading, writing and verb conjugation. Indeed, all the core skills can be learned using learn Spanish software.

Some software can act as a good teacher too. It can motivate and keep the student interested in their topic. Two ways in which the software can do this is to use games as a teaching tool. I’d say the aim of learn Spanish games is to help you learn without you thinking that you are learning. Some games can do this and have an addictive quality that makes you play them over and over again.

A software program can also keep the student going by providing feedback and measuring progress. People can get demoralized when taking on a large challenge like learning a new language. Without some encouragement they are just as likely to pack it in or find other things to do with their time, like watch tv. A software program can give feedback and tell the student how they have progresses and where they have to go next to improve.

Learning to speak Spanish software can make attaining new language skills far more enjoyable and easier than you might imagine. A good package can cover all the basic skills needed and also motivate you to keep going. these are the key elements to any learn to speak Spanish software.
